Final Exam Blog Post

Vine, Periscope, Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, blogs…the ways today’s communications professional have to reach desired audiences is varied, diverse and complex. Our  entering the news, public relations, marketing, advertising and entertainment fields need to be on top of these and other 21st century communications “tools of the trade.”

The goal of this course was to give the class a comprehensive and hands-on approach to the world of social media and multimedia: video and image creation, editing, correction and manipulation (in positive, ethical ways), news layout and design, and Web-based design software. We also learned the aesthetics and techniques of content creation, layout, web design, and image processing. The course focused on the production technologies and software most commonly used by video, newspaper, magazine and web professionals.

Twitter:
Twitter is an online social networking service that enables users to send and read short 140-character messages called "tweets". Registered users can read and post tweets, but unregistered users can only read them. My personal Twitter account handle is https://twitter.com/_GirlsLikeSterl. I currently have 10.2k tweets and 928 followers.

LinkedIn:
LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking service. Founded in December 2002 and launched on May 5, 2003, it is mainly used for professional networking. Linked in plays a huge part in modern day news and social media. When trying to network from a business standpointLinkedIn offers you the chance to network with individuals all around the world. Its almost like a social media resume to where if you want a business ore corporation to see your skills and talents, they could access your account and network with you through LinkedIn. https://www.linkedin.com/nhome/?trk=

Prezi:
Prezi is an innovative web based presentation tool based on an infinite canvas. Text, images and videos can be displayed on the canvas and can be structured by frames. A path in the prezi sets the story line of the presentation. The power of Prezi is the infinite canvas and the zooming features. What i like about prezi is that it gives a more modern and interactive look rather than just using Microsoft PowerPoint or another power point system. What i dislike about prezi is that sometimes it can become a little confusing with all of the effects and transitions that are not your normal page-to-page slideshow. http://prezi.com/bax1pbkymkwc/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy
There is a link to my latest Prezi slideshow.

Green Screen Quick Takes:
The green screen quick takes were probably my favorite in class activity. The goal of the project was to record short video clips, upload them to iMovie, the put yourself explaining the clip within the video its self. I learned how to use the "picture-in-picture" function in iMovie. I can use the information I  learned for if I was to perhaps start an online video blog, I could use that feature in some of my videos if need be. This is the link to my  QuickTake video I recorded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cveTT6sTkmU

Kizoa:
Kizoa is a a slideshow and Movie generator in which you can edit using text, music, and effects. It can be used to perhaps document a family vacation by easily using a couple of pictures and make them into a interesting movie for family and friends to view. What I like about Kizoa is the creative openness you have when composing the slideshow. You can make your pictures into anything you want them to be. What i dislike is that it is currently slightly out dated due to the fact when Myspace was the most popular social media website, most slideshows looked similar to that of a Kizoa therefore I personally feel it is just a tad outdated. http://www.kizoa.com/Movie-Maker/d28072750k8044259o1l1/pipe-it-up

In brief, being in EMP has definitely made me more aware to social media networks that I weren't so sure about before. This class also helped my video editing skills by teaching me new ways to navigate using iMovie, Kizoa etc. I definitely feel as if the class itself was beneficial. Our class chemistry was outstanding and class was away a fun and learning experience each and every day we met. Lastly, i appreciate Mr. Harwoods dedication to always strive to ensure class was insightful but also fun at the same time. Harwood would take time out of class to individually help those who needed if need be without a question until you felt comfortable enough to work on the task alone. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn more about Electronic Media production or has a passion or interest to learn more. All smiles, leaving this class this semster. Hope to do take something similar again !
